Rutland WordPress Training in Oakham

We spent a splendid afternoon on Tuesday training someone who was pretty good with WordPress, though she had lost her way a little.  She had a few websites and booked us to head over to her location near Oakham to go through her various questions and concerns surrounding WordPress.

Unlike most WordPress Training companies who provide a set course – we go through the issues and questions the user has, and teach them what they want to know – not what we want to train them to use.

wordpress trainingOne on One Training

She contacted us as she needed some one-on-one training on how to do a little more advanced work, like custom CSS, SEO changes, and effective plugin use.  She had a list of things to go through, so one by one, we went thru each month to explain, or “do” what the comment was on her list.

A few key areas were in how to set rows of their particular theme to be full width.  Sadly this is not always possible.  Some themes are a little constricted to what it allows.  For example, we like to be able to add a row of say three columns.  plus content in each column, add our own amount of space between each column, and set the row to ‘full width’, so it goes virtually edge to edge on the screen.

Their theme (we shan’t mention brands or products here) didn’t allow this, or at least we could not see how to force it.  But we did show her how to use it in another way which would look possibly better.

Custom CSS in WordPress

Another area was in Custom CSS.  Most people who use WordPress websites create it with the theme, add their colours in the various Theme options, but there are times when the colour scheme does suit, such as background colours to sliders.  In this example she had black transparency, but needed it to be a dark green.  There was no option to do it, so we spent time showing her the HTML code, finding the right area, and working in theme’s custom CSS area to change it.  The final result looked very smart.

Working with someone like this is very rewarding.  They may get a little “oh my goodness, so much to learn”, but we hope they take some of it in to help them advance their knowledge in WordPress.

As we both agreed, it’s one thing to pick it up and build, it’s quite another to make it work correct, and get the SEO spot on.

South Holland web design – truly local

So where in Lincolnshire is 79DESIGN?  We are in South Holland, commonly known as South Lincolnshire.

We began here in South Holland too, and we love this town, Spalding.  It’s a fine place to be.  Lots of local businesses, growing businesses, from retail shops to takeaways, hair and beauty establishments, to schools and learning establishments too.

A growing reputation in South Holland

We have a growing reputation for the quality of our work, speed of our support response, and friendly supportive attitude to all customers.  Sometimes we like to meet in the evening, away from work so we can freely chat, perhaps at the Ivy Wall, Wetherspoons in Spalding.

number one web designer in south holland

If you Google ‘Web Designer Spalding’, or even as we discovered recently, “design spalding”, 79DESIGN is ranked number one.  We feel extremely proud of that.  We have worked hard on this status.

South Holland is a lovely part of Lincolnshire.  It might be the flattest part of the country, but it’s very pretty, and with a growing community, more businesses and folk are looking to have brilliant new websites created, or to have their dull websites turned into some of which they can feel proud.

That’s why Mum’s Gone To 79DESIGN

A number of weeks ago, Trish Burgess approached us via our Live Chat system.  She has a website called Mum’s Gone To, and it use to use Blogger, the Google Blog system.  However, she was being told from all quarters of her life that it looked dated, and needs a full-on refresh.  That’s when she came to us.

She was looking for a local company here in Spalding, and very quickly and easily found us.  As you will read from this article we have scanned, she explains very nicely what happened.

Working with Trish on Mum’s gone to as been a “pleasure”

It’s been our pleasure to work with Trish, much of which has in fact been in the evenings!  She was eager to move to a WordPress platform, and since we consider ourselves experts in the field, we went for it and based on feedback, we “shone”.

The import process from Blogger to WordPress wasn’t without its issues, but between us and Trish Burgess, we really crack it in a terrific way.

The images were imported; all her ‘feeds’ from social media and awards were imported as well.  The site now has much better features, and better look, and in fact the responsive nature of the design means it looks really good on a phone.

Many websites that are “responsive”… are … but are done badly.

We really appreciate and value Trish’s comments on our very own website.

The article will be on the Free Press website in the coming days, but here is the scanned copy from today’s newspaper… available in all good newsagents.
